Mentally Healthy Workplaces and Psychological Risk Management

A mentally healthy workplace is characterised by one in which both the organisation and its employees are aligned to operate and perform at their best.

A mentally healthy workplace is exemplified by certain key attributes:

  • Clear organisational direction and well-defined roles

  • Open and honest communication at all levels

  • Employees who feel empowered and valued and want to come to work with their best mindset and focus

  • Employees who are able to speak freely and feel supported in relation to their mental health

  • Leadership who are equipped to identify potential mental health concerns and are confident to proactively have conversations with employees in relation to their mental well-being.

  • Employees who are actively encouraged to develop their self care and self awareness to be their "best self "

  • Timely and appropriate management of concerning behaviour

  • A workforce that embodies a sense of fun and enjoyment at work with equal focus on achieving organisational goals

In supporting organisation's create a health workplace, The People Catalyst's consultants work at both levels:

1. Organisational

The first involves support to the organisation in the development of a mentally healthy workplace culture utilising appropriate assessment tools and the development of targeted strategies and educational interventions.

2. Individual

Of equal importance is to ensure the adequate management of individual employee wellbeing in the workplace by conducting psycho-social risk assessments with employees whose mental health is impacted due to workplace stressors to support management to understand the employee's behaviour and adequately manage and reintegrate as required.
