Workplace Mediation and Conflict Resolution
Some level of conflict is a normal aspect of life both at home and in the workplace. Its occurrence does not always indicate a breakdown or failure in the individual or the organisation's functioning. However, sustained high levels of conflict can seriously impact on both the individual employees and the organisational's wellbeing and effectiveness.
The People Catalyst specialises in workplace and organisational conflict resolution. Understanding human behaviour and motivation is a crucial aspect in maximising a positive outcome in any conflict resolution process.
The People Catalyst consultants are trained and accredited mediators who leverage and apply their expertise as psychologists in understanding both non-verbal and verbal behaviours in resolving conflict. We have experience with complex mediations involving multiple parties and highly sensitive matters. Examples of the industries we have conducted mediations include mining, oil and gas, utilities, education, retail, telco, law enforcement, aviation, transport, finance, insurance, local government, health, non for profit, state and federal government agencies.
It is important to note that conflict in the workplace can also often be a sign of the individual(s) experiencing mental health problems and a well conducted and timely mediation can help prevent the escalation of the conflict and the exacerbation of any mental health concerns. We also work to support the manager and often conduct team realignment sessions where required.
Undesirable outcomes of conflict include:
Elevated stress levels and health issues
Lower staff motivation
Higher absenteeism and sick leave
Higher staff turnover
Dysfunctional behaviours and communication which can result in bullying and stress claims
Team conflict and low team morale
Decreased levels of productivity and focus taken away from business goals.
